Pools of Guava

In this book, Papou lets herself be moved by the ordinary things most people pass by, the everyday muses of her life. She is in love with so much at once that it consumes her, and painting is the only way to hold it: to survive it, to keep breathing through it.

She finds joy in the texture of pink, in seagulls drifting past, in palm trees that sing, in sun-bleached walls. She feels it all in the back of her mouth and gulps it down like guava. Her work turns grief into joy and joy into grief. a

Pools of Guava is an honest look at duality that invites us to taste the beauty in what we overlook.
